He was nearly killed by a [[Jackal Sniper]] but the sniper just missed him. An [[Elite]] then tried to sneak up on him with an [[Energy sword]]. Butkis' rifle was destroyed and he himself narrowly dodged the attack and fell to the ground, picking up a [[plasma pistol]] and charging it. As the Elite took [[Jones (Marine)|Jones]] hostage, Butkis was able to shoot the Elite and save his squadmate.
