In Firefight, bonus rounds are a 60 second round at the end of each set.  The skulls Iron, Tilt, Famine, and Black Eye are turned on. The points you recieve are either double or tripled the standard amount. Bonus rounds only end when time has run out or when every player has died.

Although these are the standards settings for firefight in Halo: Reach, they can be edited to a great proportion. The duration of the rounds can be altered, as can the skulls and types of enemy's.

In Halo 3: ODST the bonus round cannot be customised and will have all skulls on, with above named settings.

Trivia
*Gruntpocolypse could be described as a five waves of a bonus round.
