Before the battle, a group of [[Kig-Yar]] lead by [[Reth]] began to trade modified weapons with human insurgents at [[the Rubble]]. Unknown to the Insurrectionists, the Kig-Yar were following orders from the [[Prophet of Truth|High Prophet of Truth]].<ref>'''Halo: The Cole Protocol''', ''page 222''</ref> The Kig-Yar had placed hidden trackers on the weapons and the insurgents were then bringing the weapons to other [[human colonies]]. The Covenant had discovered Charybdis IX after following tracking information on the modified weapons.<ref>'''Halo: The Cole Protocol''', ''page 93''</ref>

==The battle==
The Covenant fleet arrived at Charybdis IX overwhelming the three [[UNSC destroyer]]s in orbit. The {{UNSCShip|Midsummer Night}}, a {{Class|Stalwart|light frigate}}, was nearby as well, but did not take part in the combat. Two of the destroyers were almost immediately eliminated, but the {{UNSCShip|Do You Feel Lucky?}} was disabled.

[[Thel 'Vadam]]ee proceeded to board the ''Do You Feel Lucky?'', in search of the already wiped navigation data. Following the battle, the [[Prophet of Regret|High Prophet of Regret]] dispatched Thel 'Vadamee to [[23 Librae]] to find and eliminate the source of Covenant weaponry modified for Human use.
