In [[2550]],{{Ref/Reuse|EN}} Ballast was [[Battle of Ballast|attacked]] by the [[Covenant]]. During the course of the battle, a rumor that the [[UNSC Armed Forces|UNSC Defense Force]] succeeded in defeating the Covenant began circulating, although many thought it possible that the rumor was created by the [[Office of Naval Intelligence]] to raise morale.{{Ref/Reuse|ENC300}} Regardless of the rumors, Ballast did indeed escape being [[Glassing|glassed]]{{Ref/Reuse|EN}} and the colony still intact during the [[Battle for Earth]] in late 2552, as evidenced by active transports from the colony to the [[Quito Space Tether]].{{Ref/Map|H3|Orbital}}
