The ''Anlace''-class' design is considered somewhat novel for the [[UNSC Navy]], with a lifting body hull and maneuvering systems well adapted for atmospheric operations.{{Ref/Reuse|CFCalm}} The ''Anlace''-class frigate is the smallest [[frigate]] currently in service with the UNSC Navy, with a length of 372 meters (1,220 feet) - only just barely outclassing the larger classifications of [[UNSC corvette]]s such as the {{Class|Lancer|fast-attack corvette}} at 341 metres.{{Ref/Reuse|osfm}} 

Outside of physical combat, the ''Anlace'' is specialised for support roles in the fleet and can be fitted with numerous modular mission packs. These include refits intended for reconnaissance or disruption.{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} When equipped with an [[electronic warfare]] (EW) suite, ''Anlace'' frigates can mask a UNSC presence or inhibit communication between enemy ships.{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} When employed in pairs, two ''Anlace''-class frigates are capable of projecting a jamming blanket around an entire planet, preventing communications within this zone. Offensively, the ''Anlace''-class differs significantly from other contemporary UNSC frigate classes such as the {{Class|Strident|heavy frigate}} or Paris. Unlike prior models, the Anlace eschews projectile or [[missile]]-based armaments and instead relies entirely on [[directed energy weapon]]s for sustained combat operations between resupply.{{Ref/Reuse|CFCalm}} The frigate's primary weapon is a turreted [[Helios high-energy laser|Helios capital-scale high-energy laser]], with four additional [[Magna-320 pulse laser|Magna-320 capital-scale pulse lasers]] as a secondary outfit. It's likely the Anlace was designed this way which explains it's small size, since spinal mount, coils and mechanical loading equipment for a MAC take up significant portion ships internal volume, the Anlace thou small is equally capable despite it's small size. Since "Energy" is it's ammunition, it requires no munitions thus is unburdened by logistical concerns of running out of "Ammunition" as well as the volume constraints of holding that material.

In the aftermath of the [[Human-Covenant War]], hundreds of ''Anlace'' and {{Class|Strident|heavy frigate}}s began assembly in the shipyards above the [[planet]]s [[Mars]] and [[Tribute]] to replace combat losses and engage [[Covenant remnants|remnants]] of the [[Covenant]] still occupying the [[Outer Colonies]].{{Ref/Reuse|wf38}}
