Under the command of [[First Lieutenant Melissa McKay]], Jones was in a convoy that was ferrying supplies to [[Alpha Base]]. [[Covenant]] ground forces under the command of [[Noga 'Putumee]] attacked the convoy using [[Wraiths]], [[Banshees]], and [[Ghost (Vehicle)|Ghosts]]. Jones was in the fourth [[Warthog]], under command of [[Sergeant Corly]] when his vehicle was hit by a plasma mortar round from the [[Wraiths]]. The [[Warthog|vehicle]] toppled end over end, and [[Corly]] was killed while Jones was thrown free and survived.<ref>[[Halo: The Flood]], page 156</ref> He then climbed to a hill and spotted two [[Elites]] on it, one being a [[Minor Domo Elite]],[[Ado 'Mortumee]], and the other being a [[Zealot]], [[Noga 'Putumee]]. For some particular reason, he decided to kill the lower ranking [[Elite]] first.<ref>[[Halo: The Flood]], page 159</ref> He decapitated 'Mortumee's head with a sniper shot but his second missed, allowing 'Putumee to escape. 'Putumee then ordered the [[Banshees]] to find Jones' position and take him out.<ref>[[Halo: The Flood]], page 159</ref> His fate after that was unknown, as the book did not mention him again. However, it is safe to assume that he was possibly killed when Banshee patrol found him, or died along with every one else when the [[Master Chief]] blew up the [[Pillar of Autumn]]'s fusion drive core, effectively causing a catastrophic explosion which destroyed [[Installation 04]].
