==Operational history==

On August 12, [[2552]] during the [[Battle at Szurdok Ridge]], ''Grafton'' provided fire support for [[UNSC Army]] forces engaging in combat in the [[Viery Territory]], accompanied by the frigate {{UNSCShip|Saratoga}}. During the battle, ''Grafton'' was authorized to utilize its [[Magnetic Accelerator Cannon]] to destroy a [[Covenant Empire|Covenant]] installation codenamed "[[Spire One]]".<ref name="tip"/> ''Grafton'' succeeded in destroying the installation; however, with the dissipation of the spire's projected electromagnetic cloaking field, the Covenant [[Covenant supercarrier|supercarrier]] ''[[Long Night of Solace]]'' was revealed, hovering over the battle area. With its cloaking shield gone, the supercarrier opened fire on ''Grafton'' with its ventral [[energy projector]], destroying the frigate with a single shot.<ref name="tip"/>
