Template:Vehicle Infobox The M862 Arctic Warthog (also referred to as the Arctic Hog)[1] is a variant of the M12 Warthog that is outfitted specifically for expeditions in arctic conditions.[1]
Description
Unlike its standard variant, the M862 Warthog features an enclosed cabin and quad-tracks, allowing it to scale icy heights and travel over deep snow.[1] It does not feature any sort of mounted turret, making its primary use for transportation and scouting.
Production notes
The M862 model was originally developed for inclusion in Halo 2, alongside the M868 Tropic Warthog and M914 Recovery Warthog variants. These models were cut from the game's development, however, with a screenshot of them (shown below) released on Bungie.net. A spiritual successor, the M864 Arctic Warthog, was later included in the release of the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack. On the map Avalanche, all UNSC vehicles were given a special snow camouflage befitting of the map's terrain, and the Warthog variant included was later given the designation of M864. The M862 Warthog, however, was later given canon status in the Halo Waypoint Warthog article.[1]
