'''Diego Garcia''' is a small tropical island in the Indian Ocean of [[Earth]], about 1,000 miles south of the southern India coast and far east of the "African Horn".

The island has housed a military base since the 1970's. In 1941 RAF (British Royal Air Force) Gan was built near there and was shut down in 1976, to become Gan Internation Airport. In 1965, the Chagos Archipelago (a group of islands which include Diego Garcia) became a [[United Kingdom|British]] Indian Ocean Territory and continued to be during the 21st Century.

In the 26th century, the [[United Nations Space Command|UNSC]] had a [[military base]] on the island. The base launched the first counterattacks against the [[Covenant Empire|Covenant]] when they [[Battle of Mombasa|invaded]] [[New Mombasa]] in [[Kenya]], [[Africa]] in [[2552]] during [[Battle of Earth]]. Among the units to respond was the [[77th Marine Regiment]] and the [[405th]] UNSC Marine Corps Unit.
