Actually what would be easier to believe is that the Covenant is part of the followers of the great beast and the false prophet found in Revelation. According to apocalyptic Christianity, these followers will attempt to force their way of life upon the remaining Christians during the tribulation. (this would be post-rapture) This makes sense because earth was their last hope, their last stand. They were the remaining Humans which means they were the remaining forerunners or reclaimers, the last of the old life style, just like the christians will be during the tribulation.
