Ceremonial energy staves feature an elaborate, forked tip with ornate panels similar in color to the glowing armor panels of their wielders. They are used exclusively by the [[Honor Guard of the Covenant|Honor Guard]] [[Sangheili Honor Guardsman|Sangheili]] and [[Jiralhanae Honor Guardsman|Jiralhanae]] and [[Honor Guard Ultra|Lights of Sanghelios]].<ref name="grave">'''[[Halo 2]]''', campaign level ''[[Gravemind (level)|Gravemind]]''</ref>

The energy stave mostly serves a ceremonial purpose as opposed to a combat one; the stave has been used as an actual offensive weapon in rare cases only. The Honor Guard Sangheili mostly use [[Type-25 Directed Energy Rifle|Plasma Rifles]], [[Type-1 Energy Weapon/Sword|Energy Swords]], and [[Type-51 Carbine|Covenant Carbines]] in combat. However, they were used by [[Jiralhanae]] to subdue any [[Unggoy]] and [[Kig-yar]] that came too close to the [[Council Chamber]] during one of the [[Prophet of Truth|High Prophet of Truth]]'s sermons regarding the discovery of the [[Activation Index|"Sacred Icon"]].<ref name="grave"/>

This version of the energy stave is more ascetic in design than the ceremonial stave. Metallic gray in overall coloration, it incorporates a twin-bladed tip with blue paneling. Unlike the ceremonial staves only used by Honor Guards, these weapons can also be wielded by regular Sangheili, including [[Sangheili Minor|Minors]]. During the [[Battle of Shield 0459]], a group of Sangheili guards assigned to protect [[The Apex|the Apex site]] on the [[Shield 0459|Shield World]] were equipped with energy staves.<ref name="wars"/>
