Limitations
Through the Doctrine of glassing, there are some setbacks or side effect using this Doctrine. Although the results are devastating, this doctrine was later non-practicable when using on the land of Sacred Ring by the Covenants or known as Halo Installation. The primary reason The Covenant was unable to glass it is because due to them value Halo Installation as the Sacred Ring.
While glassing is devastatingly powerful as an offensive tactic, doctrinal limitations prevented the Covenant from applying it indiscriminately in any combat situation. For example, "sacred" Forerunner artifacts, most notably the Halo installations, could not be targeted by glassing lest they be damaged by the bombardment. It was this reluctance to damage holy sites that allowed the Pillar of Autumn to land on Installation 04, and its complement to eventually score a victory against the Covenant forces.

Because of the highly value Installation, UNSC was able to utilize this as an advantage to score a decisive victory on Installation 04 which lead indirectly to the Great Schism. The Sangheili, once break-up from the Covenant decide to glass Installation 05 due to the Flood poised more threat rather than protecting the Installation itself that may risk of the Flood being spread around the Installations.

This Doctrine was later used by Isabel, utilizing it as a trigger for Installation 00 to activate the Sentinel Defense Network in attempt to destroy Enduring Conviction.
