Mombasa underwent dramatic change with the arrival of the interstellar era. The Mombasa area was first seen during the [[Halo 2 E3 demo]] where it was significantly different than designs of the city seen in released media. In the demo, the city was a large tree like structure stretching into the sky. This structure was removed for the final game where the designers wanted the city to feel more real.
